$3500 dollars for what has become a core to be rebuilt.

Monster Transmission - $3500 dollars for what has become a core to be rebuilt.
Explore video interviews

I watch a lot of Motor Trend TV - particular show discussed Monster In a Box. - warranty . Bullet proof, etc. etc. I was in the process of retro fitting a 455 BB Buick into my 1955 Buick Roadmaster- yada yada yada - I needed/wanted a new 4 speed transmission - wasnt sure if I wanted a 200 or 700r4. Called Monster - Lou - nice guy - went through my specs - tells me - you need a custom transmission based on BB configuration- so I said fine - $3,200 later its ordered - Monster in a box is on its way - nickname of tranny is Kristi - going to be painted black. Feeling good. 1 month later I call back to see where is Kristi? Big Lou tells me its going to quality control - awesome- sounds like its done. I wont bore you with every call - but 3 1/2+ months later - Lou not there anymore- Its being delivered Monday- week later still not there - Eventually I get my monster in box.

Great looking box - transmission looks great - the fact they have lied through their Fing teeth every phone call- Im over it - lets move on.

Folks. The transmission lasted less than 400 miles. Couldnt get it to shift into OD.

Pretty sure torque converter is garbage as well.

It ended with a puddle of transmission fluid on my driveway.

Did they really bolt this transmission and run it before shipping as Gas Monkey guy claims in their advertising???

Warranty = you actually get screwed more for their incompetence.

Send us back the POS you waited 31/2 months for - shipping is on your dime - not ours. $358 from PA to Florida.

This is after I had to send videos and pay a local transmission guy to diagnose (he respectively had a smile on his face - rightful so).

Monsters fix = We are going to rebuild transmission for you.

Youll wait no longer than 2 weeks we promise.

Oh - if your transmission guy touches transmission like drop pan to actually see what's going on - no warranty.

Warranty = labor coverage of $600 actually only covers if the transmission doesn't need to come out and back to Monster. So if they really *** your build- it costs you labor in addition to shipping. Nice.

Customer service- pretty sure it is an outside company that monster has hired to get you to give up. Phones and emails do not include monster anywhere in them. After 3 months and 3 reps with - in my view - unsatisfactory answers - I asked to speak with the manager. I was told mangers do not have an open line to customers . I own several businesses- how or when is that ever even an option???

I was told that rep would send management a email stating I wanted a call and that response from management would be most likely weeks away. Is that a company you would do business with???

I have never taken the time to torpedo a company with a review- just not who I am. But this has to be the worst transaction/ business interaction I have ever had in my 46 years.

Monster transmission is awful - they sell convenience- you receive garbage.

I am a small business owner who should have hired a local shop to do the work - I own that.

If you're thinking about buying from Monster- don't. Take my valuable time and my money and hire a reputable local shop.

You're absolutely correct, its not worth pursuing the warranty. If they can't build it right the first time why bother the second.

The exact same thing happened to me, 200-4r supposed custom built and tested for me never shifted right from day one. Now telling me to have it removed and pay for shipping back to them. I wish i had read the reviews prior to buying anything from these criminals!

Monster Scammers of the transmission world! Cancel your order ASAP, ask for for a refund number and call your credit card company to DISPUTE!!!!

Do not E-signature nothing. All the negative reviews are true. I have the same story as all the others. Came across 1 review to call your credit card company and Dispute.

DO NOT trust them if they said they are going to refund! There is a review about them saying they would but didn't. CALL your credit card company to report them. Hopefully that would get taken away from them.

EVERYONE call your credit card company. LET them know.

Kevin M Hpr

Too late, I already got screwed by them. Out 4k.

Sorry to hear Kevin. In the end it was $400 for my guy to fix - plus labor in and out - in the end it was going to cost me nearly $400 to ship to Monster there and back.

So I’m happy I cut bait - plus I’ve made a new friend (tranny guy). Hopefully people see our info moving forward

So far I have to save up the $400 for shipping them back something that they messed up. Makes no sense their mistake they should pay for shipping I will update

Original review Mar 18, 2022
Had spent $2,500 on a 4l65e for my 2004 Tahoe break in time 500 miles it made it 465 lost all gears on the highway rpms went high. Transmission was getting hot I pulled over let it cool down and it would drive about 20mph at 4,000 rpm I drove it like that 15 miles home.

Had no choice. Ive been a mechanic for 20 years thought Id give them a shot never again I have to pay 400 for shipping and pull it back out. I shouldnt have to pay since it didnt make it pass break in time! When I installed it put a new trans cooler on there with new lines very disappointed I cant wait to see a lawsuit.

Chrisbcathey77@***.com when I purchased it I told the sales guy about all the bad reviews he said well GM has a lot of bad reviews I said yea GM has plants all over this country yall have one I said yall really need to make sure this is done right its my work vehicle!! Smh I should of rebuilt it myself I was trying to get out of having to do it since I just rebuilt the motor never again

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Spent a lot of money for a trans that has not been installed yet, but the torque converter wont go in due to the ft pump seal spring popped out and got lodged between the torque converter and pump bushing. There making me pay for the shipping so they can look at it. It came off the pallet that way. Never again will we purchase from this company. We push 150 cars out of this shop a month.

There transmissions are junk

Bought a 48re transmission 10 months ago it lasted around 8 months . They first wouldn't honor the warranty because I didn't replace the cooler which they didn't tell me to.

They told me to flush it out. This is a $6100 transmission. They finally said they would warranty it so I sent it back . I got the transmission put back in the truck and I dont have no forward gears.

So I guess they just repainted it and sent it back. I would advise anyone to look elsewhere for a transmission because there not worth the money and are not built like there advertising says.

Till they resolve this my opinion on there transmissions is JUNK. DON'T BUY FROM MONSTER TRANSMISSION!!!

Misrepresentation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I ordered 4 Chevrolet GM Coarse Threaded Dust Cover Screw items. The website shows what appears to be a package of 4 black premium screws, so I assumed that is what I would receive. Shipping cost was quoted at $14.77 for a $4 item, so I ordered 4 sets and the shipping cost remained unchanged. What I received was one package of 4 minimum quality screws that I could have picked up at Home Depot. I got 4 *** screws for over $30 and no response from the company to voice messages or online chat inquiries. I can't imagine risking doing business with them for an expensive purchase.

Terrible customer service. They are not experts.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Okay, so I bought their most expensive rebuild kit for my Ford C4 - the Monster in a Box SS. The package arrived timely but immediately noticed they sent the wrong control module.

I specifically requested the screw-in model but they sent the push-in version. Numerous calls and emails with no response. I think no big deal. So I start the rebuild process using two manuals and the Bad Shoe Production video (which is awesome).

I disassemble everything and clean it to perfection. I assemble the first clutch basket which contains 5 clutch discs. I go t assemble the second clutch basket which contains 4 clutch discs but they only sent me 8 discs. Per the video the only C4 transmissions that uses 8 vs.

9 discs are for the small engines like used by a Pinto. I call, I text and finally get a return call from Maria and she said no problem. She would correct this error. The modular arrived and two clutch discs.

I I am thinking that was nice, they sent me a spare. I did notice that the 8 discs they previously sent were textured and the 2 new ones were smooth. So I assemble the second clutch basket and the clutch gap was way out of spec. It turns out that the forward clutch with 5 discs requires the 0.061 disc and the direct clutch with 4 discs requires the 0.078 disc.

So that is why they sent me two discs because they did not know which disc I was missing. So the transmission "experts" sent me 8 of the 0.061 discs. I text/call Maria numerous times with no response. It has been a week today since I notified Maria of this issue.

I purchased the correct clutch disc from Ebay which arrived promptly.

I will never deal with Monster Transmission again. I am just thankful that I discovered their error before I installed the transmission.

Stuck with two junk transmissions

After my trans went out in my truck I was online looking for one that I could pay for get it and put it right in... so as I was searching the internet the website monster transmission kept popping up which I recognized from the TV show gas monkey...

despite how pricey it was I decided to go with it.. only after I had paid for it I learned that it still needed to be built and that would be another 4 to 6 weeks... I wouldn't of cared but the customer service made it sound like my trans was on the shelf ready to go... so roughly 7 months and 2 transmissions that will barely go later the only way they will talk to me is if I sign the wowanty but at this point in this nightmare I just want my money back...

I never thought such a big company would be like this... I only wish I would of looked farther then there website for real reviews I haven't seen a single positive one!!!

I ended up purchasing the correct TV cable from NAPA Auto

Original review Dec 19, 2021
I recently purchased a new Throttle Valve (TV) cable from Monster Transmissions after watching Curt's Corner video on their web site. The cable I received is not what Curt advertised.

The cable I received had a different end that attaches to the TV bracket by the carb. The cable end shown on Curt's Corner had a push button adjustment as well as every video I researched on You Tube. Their cable end had to be removed from the bracket each time an adjustment was required. I tried to talk to them about the issue but all I received was the party line "We sent you what you ordered" And I tried to explain I didn't order that cable but the one advertised on your video.

They said send us the video and I said why do I have to send it to you it's on YOUR web site.

Then I got some ignorant women who just kept talking over me and not listening to what I was saying. Will never purchase anything from them again because of the way I was treated.

Monster Transmission - Junk product
Updated by user Oct 28, 2021

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product replacement. Monster Transmission sent a rebuilt valvebody which I installed and everything works as it should now..

Original review Sep 28, 2021
Angry I bought an upgraded transmission from Monster Transmission out of Florida. It is completely junk.

I have made several calls to them. They want me to pull it back out send it to them at my cost so they can look at it then pay to have it sent back. This upgraded transmission starts out in second gear and there are other smaller issues. I took the truck to a transmission shop like they said to do and had to pay them to tell tell me the tranny was junk and needed rebuilt.

All I want is my money back so I can have a reliable shop rebuild it so I can get the truck back to work again.

I don't have another 6 weeks for the truck to be down again I paid 4k for a transmission that was supposed to work correctly the first time. Stay away from this company.

Poor Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a 2004R transmission from Monster. The customer service was lacking. 1st, I received the wrong TV Cable, it was actually a kickdown cable for a THH350. They would not fix the situation. 2nd the lockout solenoid was bad, they would not send a replacement. 3rd the speedometer gears were wrong, they would not fix the situation. This is a big deal on the 2004R, the tail shaft doesn't come out. The transmission must be removed from the car and loosened up from the bell housing. Caution when you call they will be very nice and say they are your advocate, but the truth is the support staff has no authority to help at all. I sent multiple detailed emails with videos, but no response.
